Wondering where to look for your next job or opportunity to expand your business? With more and more industries turning to technology to solve their challenges and help them succeed in a highly competitive global marketplace, make sure you keep your eye on these top 5 fastest growing industries. You might just discover a new audience for your services or a better way for your business to gain a competitive edge.
1) Software publishers
This industry will experience a 3.1% annual job growth, with 351,500 software publisher jobs predicted by 2020. And it’s no surprise—our whole lives are intertwined and dependent upon technology, from the office phone systems we use at work to the coolest new smartphone app to protect our mobile devices (my teenage son swears by Lookout.com. And let’s face it, teenagers know more about smartphones than most adults!)
2)Management, scientific, and technical consulting services
You can’t watch CNN without hearing about the increasingly complex global economy. How do businesses figure out how to navigate through this new marketplace? With consultants, of course! With an expected 4.7% annual job growth, there is an ever-increasing demand for highly educated, highly specialized consultants to help guide the way.
3) Computer systems design and related services
New companies are born every day while existing companies are expanding to multiple locations, including overseas operations. As Information Technology continues to boom, there will be a greater need for software developers, programmers, analysts and technical support. This industry expects a 3.9% annual growth rate and predicts over 2 million jobs in 2020.
4) Home Healthcare Workers
According to the 2012 Bureau of Labor Statistics Report, as the Baby Boomer generation marches towards retirement a larger percentage of our population will need at-home health services from nurses, physical therapists and dietitians. This industry will see a whopping 6.1% annual growth. There were just a little over 1 million at-home health care jobs in 2010 but by 2020 this number is expected to double.
5) Outpatient, laboratory, and other ambulatory care services
The 3.2% annual job growth expected in this industry can again be attributed to the aging population as well as increasingly sophisticated technology. More jobs will open up for those providing analytic, diagnostic and ambulatory medical services.
