Spring Cleaning for your Business

With subzero temperatures finally behind us, it can be difficult to concentrate on anything besides going outside and enjoying the oncoming spring. This is usually the time of year we air out our homes, get rid of anything unnecessary we’ve accumulated, and do some dusting. Don’t leave your business out of the equation, though – spring cleaning is just as important at work as it is in any other aspect of life.

Roll up your sleeves – let’s get started!

Clean Up your Client List
When reaching out to potential clients, you want to maximize your potential. Now is the perfect time to let go of those customers who don’t open your e-mails by trimming down your list, or to send out a customer satisfaction survey and see who responds and what you can do. Make it so that the people you put time and effort into communicating with actually want that communication and that it’s time well spent for you.

Clean Up your Technology
Are you still using up valuable space by keeping old software on your computers? Ditch that old video conferencing software for HD meeting, move your e-mail applications to the cloud, and assess whether your business phone providers are meeting your needs. Trim the fat, upgrade where necessary, and make your business operate more smoothly.

Clean Up your Logo
Do you hand out your business card often? Send out memos on business stationery? You don’t have to totally re-brand, but it might be worth having a designer give your logo and branding a once-over to see if it can be cleaned up, improved, or modernized. Windows, for example, subtly changes its branding year after year while maintaining the same feel that its users are accustomed to. You can do the same and show that your company is with the times.

Clean Up your Finances
Surely everything was neat and tidy, financially, at the end of last year. But as we wrap up the second quarter of this fiscal year, it marks a good time to check in and make sure everything is in good standing. Are all bills up-to-date? Has anything been left hanging? Check in with your accounting team or do it manually – don’t leave it a mess come the end of the year.

Do some Actual Spring Cleaning
Whether you use a cleaning service or clean the office yourself, it couldn’t hurt to go above and beyond this time of year. Shred that stack of papers, encourage everyone to clean their phones and computers, and even hang up some new décor. Pull up the blinds and let the sunshine in – it’s refreshing!
