Team Building Activities to Improve Morale

As a business owner, you want things to run as smoothly as possible to maximize productivity. There are a number of ways to do this such as moving into a bigger office or upgrading technology, but there are some methods that money can’t buy. Teambuilding is one of them. Your employees will be much more willing to help each other out, have meaningful discussions, and remain engaged if they know each other on a personal level. Teambuilding also presents the opportunity for people to reveal talents that others may not have known they had.

With the spring upon us, there’s no better time to get everyone together for a little break from the standard workday. Here are some ways you can help boost morale around the office.

Company Potluck Picnic
Give your employees a reason to enjoy the beautiful weather and encourage some friendly banter with a company picnic! Host it right on company grounds or rent a gazebo at a nearby park. Play some music and get a friendly game of whiffle ball going, or host a competition to see who can make the best burger. Sometimes, getting your employees together outside of a work context is all it takes to strengthen their relationships and therefore improve their avenues of communication.

Egg Drop Contest
You remember in high school science class when you had to build housing for an egg that would protect it from a drop out the window? We’re not too old for that now. Bring some supplies and break your employees up into teams. See which teams can come up with the best engineering for egg protection. It’s a great way to get your employees to work together in a context that’s a lot of fun.

Department Decorating Contests
Send out a memo that each department must decorate their desks/surrounding areas festively to fit a certain theme. Then, post it on Facebook or choose a panel of unbiased judges to see which department did it best. Get everyone’s creative wheels turning and see just how competitive your employees can be! The winning department can earn a prize, such as a pizza party or the ability to choose the radio station for the day.

Beach Ball Volleyball
Volleyball nets are inexpensive and can be set up just about anywhere. Sports require trust, cooperation, and communication, but not everyone’s athletic. Using a beach ball, though, makes it easy for anyone to join in. Make smaller teams and create a bracket for a fun teambuilding event that lasts all day – your employees will love the break from work and be brought closer together from that point forward.
