6 Easy Ways Any Business Can Celebrate Customer Service Week

This week is Customer Service Week, which is an international celebration of the importance of customer service, originally established by the International Customer Service Association (ICSA). In 1992, the U.S. Congress proclaimed Customer Service Week a nationally recognized event, celebrated annually during the first full week in October.

At Broadview, we recognize that customer service is the heart of our business. It is a holistic effort where every employee plays a critical role in supporting our customers on a daily basis. We proudly celebrate National Customer Service Week (NCSW) every year with company-wide, week-long events to show our appreciation and recognition for our employees. 

Customer Service Week is a great opportunity for every business to show their employees how much they appreciate all they do; for no business can thrive without employees who are dedicated to the customer experience.

Here are a few fun ways that any business or organization, not matter how small can celebrate. 

1.       Trivia
Who doesn’t love a good game of trivia? Creating trivia questions about your business, customer base and departments will not only strike up a good competition, but will boost your employees knowledge about your company which is a win-win for everyone. Offering small or large prizes can be a great way to engage everyone in the company in a friendly competition. Trivia can be done in person, online or via email depending on the size of your business and how many locations you have.

2.       Food for Thought
Everyone loves free food. Whether you can afford to provide elaborate, catered events each day or you just bring in pizza, bagels or desserts, free food goes a long way, appeals to everyone and is a great way to bring people together. It’s a simple gesture and thoughtful way to thank your hard-working team.

3.       Tie in Charitable Efforts
Giving back is always a great way to bring people together. You can even tie in a friendly competition and have departments or different locations compete to see who can donate the most canned for your local food bank, box tops for education, clothing, or even volunteer hours at a local organization or animal shelter. Offering a fun prize or team outing for the winners will provide a great incentive, but many will just enjoy having the opportunity to give back and gain some bragging rights.

4.        Themed Events
Unifying your employees is an important part of a successful company culture. Coming up with fun themed events each day will help keep the celebrations going all week. Letting employees wear casual clothing (especially, if that is not the norm), their favorite team jerseys or going all out and having employees dress up for different themes can be a fun and easy way to boost morale.

5.       Awards and Achievements
Don’t forget that the purpose of this week is to recognize the dedication and hard work of your employees. Taking the time to recognize company achievements like awards received, customer satisfaction scores and positive customer reviews are important to incorporate in your celebration plans. Highlighting the achievements of your organization and goals for the coming year is a good practice for motivating your entire organization and keeping the positive momentum going.

6.       Raffle Drawings
We all want to win something, no matter how big or small. Offer raffle prizes within your budget, whether it’s a $5 gift card to Starbucks or an iPad, winning free prizes is always fun. Hand out raffle tickets and raffle off prizes each day to keep employees engaged all week long.

Beyond just celebrating Customer Service Week once a year with fun events, customer service is something that should always be recognized.  Your employees are the first point of contact; the face and brand of the company, so make it a priority to share and highlight positive customer feedback they receive, successful customer retention efforts and other achievements year-round.
