8 Ways to Make the Most of Your Trip to the Coolest Channel Partners Location Ever – Austin, Texas!
Heading to Austin for Channel Partners Evolution? Whether it’s your first big convention, or you’re an ole show pro, we’ve taken the liberty of creating this MUST-DO list to keep you sane (and having fun) in between all the educational sessions and meetings. Your taste buds, and that bucket list you didn’t know you had, will thank you.
1. Two words: Stubbs Barbeque.
Let’s face it. There are lots and lots and lots and lots of “Top BBQ” lists for Austin. But this legendary blues and barbeque house is our all-time favorite. It’s located just a 10 minute walk from the convention center… and to be honest, we’ve been known to run there in five. Slow-smoked brisket that will knock your socks AND shoes off. Sticky sweet ribs that’ll make you wanna slap your flight attendant (please don’t). Oh, and all the fixins’. Alllll the fixins. Get yourself over to Stubbs!
2. Bring Home a Pair of Authentic Cowboy Boots.
Whether you’re from the South or not, cowboy boots should be a staple in every wardrobe and there’s no better place to get them than Allens Boots and Western Wear. They’ve been outfitting locals, international athletes and celebrities alike (be sure to check out the pictures on their “Wall of Fame”) for more than 40 years and will help you find the perfect pair of boots for yourself or a souvenir for a lucky someone back home. Look for the famous big red “Allens Boots” sign on Congress Ave.
3. Sample the Flavors of the Day at Amy’s Ice Cream.
The second your shoe hits that jet bridge you’ll realize one thing’s for sure – Texas. Is. Hot. So head straight to one of Amys’ 12 area locations for a scoop of Mexican Vanilla or Belgian Chocolate or Sweat Cream or Butterfinger or Cocoa Puddin’ or… sorry, brain freeze. With over 350 ever-changing flavors you’re sure to find one (or 30) you love. Hmm… 350+ flavors and 365 days a year... that’s nearly a flavor every day for a year! New bucket list item.
4. Head to Zilker Park and Take a Dip in Barton Springs Pool.
In late September, with Austin temps still reaching above 90 degrees, why not pencil in an afternoon getaway with a little chill factor? Grab your sunscreen and head to Barton Springs pool, located inside Zilker Park, where this 3-acre controlled reservoir is fed by a natural spring that keeps the pool at a crisp 68 degrees all year long. It is hands down THE BEST way to enjoy a break from that killer Texas sun. Zilker Park itself is a treasure as well, a 10 square-mile urban escape from reality. Here you’ll find beautiful skyline views, shaded hikes along Lady Bird Lake, a botanical garden with gorgeous waterfalls, rose and Japanese gardens, and so much more. It won’t take long to see why this park is considered a “jewel in the heart of Austin”.
5. Create Your Own Food Truck Crawl.
Austin is considered the food truck capital of the world, and for good reason. All over the city you will find literally any cuisine on wheels. From coffee to cupcakes to egg rolls to, of course, barbeque – do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with this map now. But word has it, you won’t have to go far, the Channel Partners team has brought a few food trucks to the show floor! (We still encourage you to go check out a few outside the show walls.)
6. Go Batty at Congress Avenue Bridge.
Who hasn’t felt a little crazy after a jam-packed meeting schedule? Escape for an hour and head to the hill behind the Radisson Hotel, just steps from the Convention Center. Take a seat around 7:00 PM and along with hundreds of people who flock here nightly, you’ll experience one of the most unique sunsets of your life. All at once, hundreds of thousands of bats quickly (and loudly) fly out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge just before sunset to go on their nightly hunt for food. It’s literally a cloud of bats and can take 2-3 hours for all the bats to filter out. Sounds odd, and it is, but definitely an incredible can’t-miss Austin experience!
7. Visit the Spectacular Treaty Oak.
This giant southern live oak tree is a local legend, and at over 500 years old, is one of the last surviving original residents of Austin! Its breathtaking 127 foot span is a symbol of history, strength and endurance, especially after having been poisoned almost 20 years ago. The magnificent tree is still standing tall and welcoming thousands of visitors each year. A little off the beaten path, but well worth the walk, you’ll find it on Baylor Street between 5th & 6th Streets.
8. Venture Outside the City for a World-Famous Round Rock Donut.
Need a break from the hustle and bustle? We have the perfect excuse to get out of the city for an hour. Hop in an Uber and head 20 miles north to the town of Round Rock where you’ll find the most delicious pastries of perfection, featured everywhere from the Food Network to Jimmy Kimmel Live. We think you’ll find Round Rock Donuts are well worth the journey to the "burbs"!
